Can I make my computer webcam into a motion-sensored cam?
I need a security camera so I wanted to use my webcam on my laptop to record a room when no one’s home, but I want it to ONLY start recording when motion is detected. Is there a program that I can download for free that uses my webcam to record using motion detection and captures a picture or video when motion is detected? It would be better if it could also have an option of sending the picture via email or phone to myself when it is taken, so I can know when to rush home. I have heard of programs that do this and more, but they are complicated and not free.
Additional info I don’t know if this matters but:
I’m using Windows Vista and I have a webcam built into my laptop (but there is no motion detection option.)

Use ipod as remote security camera / ipod-based alternative to Webcam Surveyor?
I’m looking for a way to stream the video from my Ipod to my computer or another Wifi enabled device so that it can be used as a Security Camera. Currently I use Webcam Surveyor on my computer to use it as a security camera while I’m away, but I personally hate leaving the computer turned on at all times for it. The setup I had in mind was, set my Ipod touch in a normal unsuspecious place in my living room and view the stream when motion occurs via my Iphone or work computer. I thought about using skype and just skyping one way to another, but the fact that Skype shows the video while it’s unlocked makes it TOO obvious, and video stops when its locked does me no good. Another idea would be to have a way that it could be like those Iphone Tracking apps, so when your iphone is stolen it sends you its GPS location, but instead will take live video without the theif knowing. Any software like that of which I described?

I’ve had someone dumping trash on my yard and harassing me, today was the last straw they dumped Puke in my car. I need an outdoor security camera that works at night so I can catch this person. police haven’t done anything. I live in a pretty rural area so a motion detecting one would work, but would also like it to work with my computer i don’t know much about how that works. any information would be helpful thanks

Where to find a motion sensor?
I’m looking for a motion sensor like the ones found in high tech security cameras. I want it to be able to sense when someone is moving, and then be able to follow the moving person/object, like when a security camera ‘locks on’ to a moving person and the camera pans to follow the subject. Where can I find something like this? I don’t need the camera, just the motion sensor/ motor that would be in the camera and allow it to follow things.

This is just a little piece that just popped into my head. The bad thing about these pieces is that I usually can;t really finish them, but it’s still good practice.
It was a bright, cool winter’s day, and the dead leaves from fall were still blowing around. The tires on my Ford Escort hummed on the highway. Up ahead was a train croosing. The evergreen trees near the railway were blocking my sight of it, but the gates were up and there were no flashing lights. I was almost to the tracks when I saw the train. I slammed on the brakes. The abs pulsated, moving my foot back and forth. But still, even as the car slowed, I knew I wasn’t gonna make it. I braced myself.
I woke up in a strange room. Everything was somewhat fuzzy, and the color was weird. It was like looking at a TV displaying a security camera. I felt strangely numb, and when I lifted my hand to feel my face, I heard a clink of metal. It was then that I looked down. Instead of the blue shirt I had put on that morning, I saw a boxy metal shape, and instead of my suede shoes, there were two tracks, each one with a rubber belt on it. My hand was a metal claw, and as I did the same motions that used to make my fingers work, the claw moved with the sickening sound of an electric motor. I didn’t feel queasy, I had no stomach. I couldn’t get shaky legs, I had belts. "What happened to me?" I asked out loud, and a metallic voice blurted out the same sentence in a monotone. Suddenly there was a movement next to me, and I pivoted on the tracks. A mirror went up and I could see the horror that had become of me. I was a robot. A single cheap camera sat above the metal box. I went over to the mirror and smashed it with the metal claws. A man came out from another room. He had grey hair and was wearing a dirty white apron and rubber gloves. "Hello, my creation. Time for you to join the others." "Others?" The metallic voice asked. "Yep." "What have you done to me?" I asked desperately. "I saved your life." "Saved my life?! I’m a freaking piece of metal!" "Well, would you rather be THAT?" He pointed over at another bed. It was a bloody mess. All that remained of my old body was some guts and blood. "This can’t be happening!"

inch HD TV to put out so much heat?? its winter and i have to open my widows for cool air![ were you thinking i was going to ask something else] My friend says its only part tv! the rest is caused by 2 pc’s 2 monitors,6 lamps,30 gal fish tank with 2air pumps,water heater and 2 water treatment filters,a vcr,dvd,recorder,a stereo with 5 cd changer and 2 cassette players [no turntable],2 big room air cleaners,a Wii game system, 2 fans,a cable box,2 security camera’s[outside] connected to a 19 inch and a 13 inch TVS,a printer,a 4 foot by 3 foot lighted mirror with rollers inside, [[so it looks like a sunset on the ocean over Gilligan's island with waves in motion]].{don’t ask}…..2 electric guitars,1 Amp.i think that’s it,oh and an electric clock. Should I unplug the clock?? Bedroom had[5] ,2 plug outlets,one on each wall and one on each side of bathroom door.I added 7 /6 plug extenders with circuit breakers and 2 [1 to 3]outlet adapters. I NOW HAVE 48 THINGS PLUGGED IN!!! I don’t need lamps because little red, orange and green Led lights and aquarium light up room! No wonder the gas company can’t make any money off me! just for what i cook i guess! they must love thanksgiving and x-mas months!! WHAT DID I ASK? Oh yeah, is HD TV normal to get hot? thankyou [[now i better check batteries in smoke detector!!!!!]]AM I AN ELECTRIC JUNKIE!?? have a good week!

Security Camera for outdoor use with no electricity?
My dad has been having issues with theft on his farm which is about ten miles from his home. Most recently someone cut through titanium chains to steal his four wheeler. I’m trying to find some kind of security camera for him that will work outdoors with no electricity. It would need to be motion sensitive I suppose and maybe record or take pictures or something like that when motion is detected. I’ve researched solar powered camera’s but I can’t find anything that doesn’t involve a very obvious pole and panel…My dad is afraid if someone see’s the camera they will steal it too :(
I’m not very tech savvy and I’m hoping there is someone out there will know of some kind of camera that will work.
Any help would be appreciated! Even if it’s only to point me to a good website or electronics store…

How can stop my house from being vandalized?
My wife & I keep having our garage lights shot out by a pellet gun. Every time I replace them, they are shot out within 1-2 months. This has happened 5 times now within one year. We keep reporting this to the police, but it doesn’t help. I have a security camera that aims towards the driveway. But because it’s recording through my window, the night vision doesn’t work. Because I work 12 hour shifts at night, this is when it happens. The vandalism didn’t occur until we built a new attached 3 car garage. The vandal isn’t hitting the siding or anything else, just the 3 lights. They don’t even bother with the two lights on the porch. Only the 3 car garage. I even installed a motion floodlight to help scare the vandal away. This didn’t work either. We don’t know what else to do & would welcome any advice to catch this person. Thank you for reading this posting.
Also, the 3 garage lights are turned off by 10:00 PM. So they are not disturbing anyone during sleeping hours.

Can I sue tenant or broker for tenant from hell?
I purchased a home 6 months ago and found a renter through a broker I hired. This tenant has cost me well over ,000.00 and has been renting for only 4 months of a 1 year lease. She stole a key from the handyman to the unfinished basement and had all kinds of building inspectors come to the residence. She calls police and fire dept’s on a daily basis. She rips up other tenants mail and takes photos of them. She is part of a Govt. Domestic Violence Victim work program and has recently moved her abusive husband in. 1st day she moved in she called police to claim someone tried to break into her apartment. I installed a security camera for her. She has now filed a complaint with the Human Resources Dept. claiming that I have violated her human rights by installing a camera to monitor her comings and goings. I’ve filed a motion to have this whacko evicted but she has already cost me so much, including tenants that want to move because of her. Do I have any recourse whatsoever? Help!!!
The broker handled the background checks on my tenants. She has been living there rent free because if I cash the checks the work program sends, it will interfere with the eviction process. I know now she has done this with a prior landlord. A Catholic charity told her they couldn’t help her find an apartment after several landlords refused to rent to her. She is now suing the Catholic charity. My lawyer is doing all he can as far as the eviction but it truly has been 4 months of pure hell with this tenant.
Ann, I can’t explain her reasoning. She hired a locksmith to change the locks that lead to the upstairs tenant’s apartment. I told her she was not authorized to do that and she called the police claiming I harassed her. She stated I had someone living in the unfinished basement and I was fined over ,000.00 for violations. (No CO, and illegal kitchen) She sued me over a mailbox, and backyard canopy. The upstairs tenant almost came to blows with her after this spawn of satan took a snapshot of her daughter’s face with her cell phone. A detective contacted me and told me to stay away from my own property because they were sick of her phone calls and having to fill out reports of harassment. This really is an injustice. I would not wish her on my worst enemy, let alone another landlord!
