Wireless home motion sensor or outdoor security camera recommendations?
I have a problem with people and friends who want to talk or see me if they can’t reach me on my cell to come outside, they resort to the advantage of being able to come to my back door to my room from my side gate to my backyard and banging on my window and door to come outside. And it’s been becoming a nuisance lately. More and more often they do it at all hours of the night and day. And sometimes I just don’t want to hang out or do anything because I’m usually very tired at the times they want to.
I am a fairly new college student who must, like any other student, get his work done on time and needs to focus on the fact that work is always before play. And I can’t seem to do that with friends that evidently don’t understand that I have work to be finished.
So, I was wondering if there is a product available that can alert me from inside my room that someone is walking through my side gate that I don’t want to know I’m in my room? I’ve seen a few products that looked very tempting at Home Depot that is a basic motion sensor that you attach to the wall or whatever location your needing it in, and the other piece plug into an ordinary household electrical outlet that "beeps" or alerts me that someone is coming around back.
That seemed very basic and a maybe a solution to my problem.
But if there is an outdoor surveillance/camera security system that anyone knows of that is preferably wireless and can deliver the picture to my TV inside, please let me know where I can get one.
Please and Thank you all for your helpful answers!

Side Alley Security Camera?
I have just installed a new security system at my home. All the entrances to my home are alarmed, I have new locks to the doors and outbuildings too. I have a motion sensor over my front door that will switch on a light inside the house when activated. There is however one area of my home that I cannot see with a window or is at all secured. It is my side alley on the side of my house. This area does not contain anything of value, however it is the only access to the garden. The alley has a secure gate and padlock, but it is possible to climb over this. The gate is at the front of my house and the padlock is the only security. I am thinking of installing a security camera to monitor this area. Should I do this? If I do, should I monitor the alley or the gate. Thanks so much.
PS. The camera will not record. It is just to connect to a monitor to view the area in case I hear anything and to act as a deterrent. The camera I purchased is a black and white wireless camera. I will situate the monitor in my bedroom.
Security Camera Question?
Last year I had troubles with someone vandalizing my Christmas decorations. I bought a wireless camera and the receiver for my front yard security and flood lights on a motion sensor. I also have an ATI TV tuner card with the RCA video/audio – input. My receiver can connect to the A/V input and I can record the video to my hard drive. I don’t want to leave this 24/7 and have to review hours of footage. Instead, I would like it to only record onto my HD when the motion sensors are activated, and then keep recording for 5 or 10 minutes and turn off. What additional hardware and/or software do I need to accomplish this?
Thanks,
Joe

Is it possible to hook up a security camera outside to a laptop inside via WiFi?
My Fiance and I have had our car broken into a few times no matter whether its locked away behind gates or not and we have been to the police who have been no help and we are wondering about a security system that can be set up outside that will connect with a laptop via WiFi inside, which will automatically record if a motion sensor is tripped within the car. Is it possible to set something up like this and what would be needed to do so.
How can I get my home security system to turn on lights?
I’m looking for some answers, guidance or even just a point in the right direction. Alright a little background on myself and my system to get started.
I have extensive experience running networks, so pulling lines is not a problem. I have the average joe experience in working with electrical lines. I ran power 60 ft to my shed into a second box, and then wired my shed lights, switches and outlets. No issues working with this.
I have an Brinks security system which is now ADT. The system has a centralized box with battery backup.
My shed got broken into a month ago, and 00 worth or tools stolen. Other neighbors have been hit recently as well. I’m going to take my money from the insurance co and install a nice CCTV system. So after that I’ll have alarms and video when they break in. I’m going to install a siren/light on the front of my house, neighbors might not like it, I don’t care. I’m actually going to try and get them to do the same. We look out for each other and that would help, it’s a good neighborhood.
So I was looking at alarm parts because I’m going to install window/door sensors, a motion sensor and one of the CCTV cameras in the shed. Well I found out that alarm systems have a relay installed to sound the alarm inside. That got me to thinking, so this is what I want to do. Use the relay to turn on a handful of my lights on inside and outside the house when the alarm goes off. I’m heading down the path of using home automation equipment to do so. This is where my knowledge is limited. I am looking for some sort of relay wired or wireless, than I can place in between my light switches and lights that can be triggered by the alarm relay.
Any help or guidance would greatly be appreciated.
I have a brinks system, I will have to get home to state the model. It is not a DIY security system. It is a it was in the house when I purchased it.
Where to find a motion sensor?
I’m looking for a motion sensor like the ones found in high tech security cameras. I want it to be able to sense when someone is moving, and then be able to follow the moving person/object, like when a security camera ‘locks on’ to a moving person and the camera pans to follow the subject. Where can I find something like this? I don’t need the camera, just the motion sensor/ motor that would be in the camera and allow it to follow things.

Has anybody tried peephole cameras? Do they work well?
I am referring to cameras that you put on the peephole of your door that look outside. They can be good for security.
I just wonder how well they work as far as being able to see anything. And I didn’t find any that had a motion sensor, so it looks like you’d be scrolling through hours of footage to find anything of use.
